About Pastor Larry Groves

I grew up in the church, and I was taught both a love and a healthy respect for the things of God. Upon graduating high school in Springdale, Arkansas, I spent four years as a Calvary Scout in the United States Army. Although I had surrendered to God’s call while in High School, it was during this time that I really committed my life to God’s purpose. I returned home where I started attending the First Baptist Church of Springdale. There I worked with and around the ministry team and I received the training for the call that God had placed on my life. He showed me first hand examples of how ministry should be done with integrity and the highest standard of quality.

I then served as pastor of Johnson Baptist Fellowship in Johnson, Arkansas where God birthed a passion for seeing people meet our Lord at their greatest point of need. God also taught me that the Christian walk is lived out in and through relationships. Our relationship with Christ must define who we are and impact every other relationship that He leads us into. In the fall of 2001, my wife Sharon and I felt the Lord leading us to move to the north Texas area to start a work. We spent six years ministering to the people He brought us into relationship with, and saw over and over His grace at work in not only those lives, but in our own.

In 2007, we again moved into a season of transition in our lives and ministry. We left Texas and spent the next year traveling all over the country, experiencing church and ministry from new and eye-opening angles. About two thirds of the way through that year-long experience, God revealed to us the opportunity to enroll in the Diploma of Theology program at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley California. The decision to follow this path led us to Northern California, and inevitably, to the First Baptist Church of Galt. It is with great excitement that we look forward to what God is going to do in this new season of life, and the awesome possibilities that await us in the days, weeks, and months to come.
